Though "Wired" magazine is a very similar publication that I receive, Popular science is
You may have noticed that I immediately addressed the similarity of "Wired" and "Pop Sci" and compared them in terms of entertainment in the second sentence. This is because I don't want you to think that "Popular Science" is a "better" or "superior" publication. This is not the case. Instead, I want you to agree with me that Pop Sci is a funner (I don't mean funnier) read, a bit less of a downer. Last month's issue of Pop Sci has this on the cover:
"The Future of Fun: How Science Is Reinventing Play"
The cover of the December issue of Wired read: #RIOT
See?
On to the review.
Popular science is a very light read, it's articles aren't very serious, it's pages aren't dripping with either wit or controversy. Yet it continues to be delivered. I like Popular Science for what it is, Popular culture/science.
The best thing about Pop sci is it's gadget article. It's called: The Goods: a dozen great ideas in gear. Usually about ten pages in, there will be a two page spread covered in all the new tools, tech and gadgets of the month. This article is awesome. It has a little of everything, it's not an ad, but it gives you everything an ad would, plus a price. Some of the gadgets they feature are so new they don't have prices yet.
Another recurring spread is MEGAPIXELS. This shows an amazing picture. A cell that's never been photographed before, a false-color picture of a nebula, an aircraft, something great. There isn't much to say about it because print doesn't do it justice, which brings me to the next bit.
Popular Science is available, like many publications now, as an electric document sent automatically to your E-reader or iPad. I don't have either of those things, and I get the physical copies, so I can't say much about this feature, but it might be nice.
This may not be a very good post. Really I shouldn't have done it, there are better things to review, and better ways to do it, but I had too much time and put it off. I couldn't find anything else to say about it. See yuh next week.
